History:
In 2010 the two wheeled community achieved a big achievement:getting the city to allocate parking for scooters and motorcycles. Even more important we put the Vancouver City government and engineers “in mind” of motorcycles and scooters as a important part of a progressive transportation solution for the city.

The purpose of the rally is as follows:
To urge Vancouver City to allocate MORE FREE PARKING which does not displace automobiles in spaces  which are currently   non-revenue generating (ie after intersections and before intersections).

The rationale for Scooter and Motorcycle Parking is that:
Scooters and Motorcycles represent a viable and fast growing alternative to automobiles which are economical, reduce congestion, have less environmental footprint than other motor vehicles and produce less wear and tear on roadways. Scooter and motorcycle riders are the future customers for electric motorcycles and riders.

The rationale for FREE Scooter and Motorcycle parking is:
-The spaces which have been allocated by the city so far (corner spaces on the far side of intersections) have been non-revenue generating and therefore do not require cost recovery.
-There are other cities that provide it, including Portland, San Francisco and Toronto
-Scooters and Motorcycles are to be encouraged as part of Vancouver’s Greenest City Action Plan in order to encourage alternative modes of transport.

It was also agreed that this program shall have spillover effects with other municipalities who will find it much easier to emulate the program in Vancouver.
