FAQ

PRS QUESTIONS

Does Pacific Riding School have a location closer to me? Why should I go out of my way?

Students travel from afar because of our credentials and extensive experience, educational background, we dive into the psychology of riding, and situational survival strategies.

If you are outside of the GVRD, PRS now offers a mobile program!

Watch former PRS alumni Jo-Anne explains why cheaper and closer may not always be the best choice when it comes to your safety.

What are the similarities and differences between PRS and other schools?

Some similarities with motorcyle instruction are that motorcycle instructors in British Columbia have to be certified by ICBC. Also, most schools have an approved certified program allowing for “in-house” MSA testing. All schools provide a motorcycle, helmet and a set of gloves and they conduct practical training in a rented parking lot. Schools often hold practical training in public areas such as in a mall or college parking lot.

At Pacific Riding School, the difference starts with our experience and accreditation. Firstly, you will be trained by eight-time Supersport Champion Mark Kruger. Secondly, the curriculum was developed by Dat Louie, a graduate of McGill University’s Faculty of Education. We have a professional program that is based on sound educational andragogy that is unique and extremely effective. Your training will be conducted in our privately owned 1.2 acres training ground, to ensure a safe and controlled environment. We also provide motorcycle jackets with appropriate protection for the elbows, shoulder and back.

Where does PRS train?

ICBC MSA Street Course: Unlike other schools, we do not rent our parking lot area from another business. PRS training facilities are owned and operated by Pacific Riding School, ensuring a safe controlled environment.

Adventure/Mobile Courses: Check course descriptions to see if we are available in your community!

How much riding experience do your instructors have?

Current industry standards require only 3 years, which is far below the PRS standards. All of our lead instructors have 29+ years of riding experience.

Course QUESTIONS

What do I need from ICBC to get started?

You need your motorcycle learners license and you can find more details about obtaining that at the following link: http://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/types-licences/Pages/Get-your-motorcycle-licence.aspx

I have no previous riding experience. Is the ICBC Certified course right for me?

Absolutely! Our ICBC Certified course is designed with the new rider in mind, we start from absolute basics to more intermediate techniques. It is not a requirement that you have any driving experience prior to taking our course. If you would like to prepare for your training, we would suggest you start out with a pedal bike, as this will help you gain your balance on two wheels.  Start with riding slowly in a straight line, graduating to tight turns, and figure eights.

I have previous riding experience, but I do not have a full license. Is the ICBC Certified course still right for me?

Our ICBC Certified course is an all inclusive course designed to start from absolute basics to more intermediate techniques. Students with previous experience have found the range training invaluable as our techniques focus on the psychological aspects of riding, as well as the physical.  The instructor also challenges each student individually based on their progression.

I have previous riding experience, AND have a Class 6 licence. Do you offer refresher courses?

Yes! We also offer a Fundamentals Refresher for Class 6 licence riders looking to come back to riding after an extended break.

What type of riding gear is required for the Street ICBC Certified Course?

If students do not own their own riding gear, we supply full body armoured jackets, knee and shin guards, gloves and helmets at no additional cost. Rain gear is also available when required (Yes, we will go out in the rain).

Students must bring their own jeans (denim, Carhartts, etc) pant, and leather boots that offer ankle protection. Jean jackets and casual leather jackets are not acceptable riding jackets.  A current full face motorcycle helmet is required during all training courses.

Students are encouraged to bring their own motorcycle specific riding gear (full face helmet, jacket with elbows, shoulders and back armour, gloves & boots).

I am worried about my height, small stature, and physical challenges. Am I fit to ride a motorcycle?

We will provide pointers to address all your concerns, as well as adjusting the controls of a motorcycle to suit your needs.

I'm a little nervous about going on the road, how is the instructor going to provide feedback?

PRS uses KENWOOD FM frequency radios with an effective range of 2KM. With a dedicated radio frequency, instructors can provide immediate instructions and feedback to keep you from harm.

When is the next available course?

ICBC MSA Street Course: PRS offers four different schedules to accommodate you and new courses start every Monday. Check online or call our office for the next available course to avoid disappointment, as our courses do fill up quickly.

How much of a deposit do I require to hold a spot?

ICBC MSA Street Course: 50% of the cost of the course, the remaining balance will be paid on the first day of your course.

Adventure & Mobile programs: Full amount is due at registration.

Is a motorcycle included for your courses?

Street Course: The motorcycle and safety gear are included during the course up to the first road test*.  If the student is unsuccessful, a fee will be applied for each subsequent use of PRS motorcycles.

*PRS motorcycles can only be used for road tests scheduled through the school, not public ICBC online appointments.

Adventure / Level 2 Courses: A PRS motorcycle is available at additional cost.

Can I book my own ICBC road test appointment online?

Yes, you can schedule your own appointment at any ICBC location instead of being on the PRS road test list (for the Newton location only), however you must use your own motorcycle.

ICBC has prohibited the use of PRS motorcycle in any appointments scheduled with their online system.
