ICBC Certified Street Course (GVRD)

The ICBC Certified Street Course (also referred to MSA Motorcycle Skills Assessment / MST Motorcycle Skills Test) is designed for the new rider with no previous riding experience, but can also be tailored for the experienced rider wanting to improve on their fundamentals or returning to riding.

PRS focuses on four main objectives: Operational Knowledge (motorcycle), Human Physiology, Licensing Requirements and Street Strategies. Understanding all four aspects allows you to become a safer rider that is more aware, and in control of your mind, body, motorcycle and environment.

  • The use of safety gear and motorcycle are included during the course including the skills test, road rides and ICBC road test.
  • We conduct the MST / MSA (skills test) within the course.

Pre-requisites:

  • ICBC Motorcycle Learners Licence
  • Recent bicycle experience (slow speed balance on two wheels, within last 3 months)
  • Must have minimum jeans (denim, Carhartts, etc) and leather boots that offer ankle protection.

Note:

  • A full face helmet is REQUIRED during training at PRS. While PRS can provide the use of a helmet, jacket, gloves and knee guards, students are encouraged to bring their own motorcycle specific riding gear (full face helmet, jacket with elbows, shoulders and back armour, gloves & boots).

Courses start every week, from March until November (weather dependant).  Our training facility is located in Surrey, and is owned and operated by Pacific Riding School, which allows us to provide 4 different schedule options and allows for any additional training as required.

The 28 hour course is divided into 3 segments: classroom theory, range training, and traffic rides, all on a motorcycle and safety gear we provide.

We will conduct your skills (MSA / MST) test. Upon successful completion, riders are allowed to ride unsupervised at all posted speed limits.

The traffic segment is split between two days with specific lesson objectives – Traffic 1 is a local ride within Surrey, which focuses on getting new riders comfortable with being in traffic, riding within a group setting and learning the rules of the road. Traffic 2 will take students within the GRVD, where the focus will be on more complex urban riding strategies.

During the on road traffic segment, instructors and students are linked with Kenwood UHF Radios which provides students with vital instruction and immediate feedback.

After completing the final road ride with our school, you will be eligible to schedule a road test. To use a PRS motorcycle and safety gear, the test must be scheduled through PRS for the Newton ICBC location only. The use of the motorcycle and safety gear are included for your first road test. If you have your own motorcycle, you can also schedule your road test at any ICBC location. ICBC will not allow any PRS motorcycles in public test spots. It is recommended to do a mock test with us to ensure a successful test.
